Why Counselling?

Here are a few commonly asked questions and answers about Counselling. Hope this will help you to understand Counselling better.

Do visit the Consultation Form for starting your Counselling Session.

What Is Counselling?

Counselling is a non-invasive, interactive method of treatment where one with a semi-formal arrangement with a mental health professional aims at settling one's own mind and mental problems, with the aim of a living a happy fruitful life.

What Do Counsellers Do?

Counsellors are trained mental health professionals who help their clients become more self-aware, gain insight, and help them adjust to their environment.

What are the limits of Confidentiality?

Total. A counsellor is a trained mental health professional who is bound to keep your confidentiality and respect your privacy.

Does seeing a Counsellor mean I am ill / shameful?

Oops! Who so ever gave you that idea? If you realise that you are not well, or are getting angry too often, having bouts of depression and anxiety, dislike a lot of people, feeling uncomfortable within yourself, and feel you need help, and it would be nice if I could see a counsellor, a trained friend who can help me, then you are indescribably smart. Undoubtedly!

Does it guarantee results? Does it work for ever?

Results are definitely guaranteed but that again depends on how you use your mind to help yourself get better. As for ever, nothing truly is. But after six to twelve sessions, depending on the level of your distress, enough results are generated to give you a modicum of confidence at handling your own life, and you may need to go just once in a while to help you keep your equilibrium.

Why And When Do we Need Counselling?/How Do I Know If I Need Counselling?

All of us at some point in our life need a counsellor. There are constantly times when we find it difficult to adjust to our everyday life-situations, we get upset, fight, cause anxiety within ourselves, increase our stress levels and decrease the quality of our everyday living. We forget that being happy is Our Right and attainable if we change our attitude and our mind-set. A counsellor can help you do so.

Is Counselling like Psychiatry?

Psychiatry is the study of the mind and counselling is a way of clearing and calming our mind. They co-exist as well as interact. A counsellor needs to study psychology, but a psychiatrist need not be a counsellor. A counsellor is not a psychiatrist who is a doctor who can give you medication for your condition. But rarely will he or she have the time to counsel. A counsellor works independently and you could call him her very own personal paid friend who at the time allotted to you is totally with you. They sometimes do work in tandem with a psychiatrist too.
